Overview

London Voluntary Service Council (LVSC), the regional infrastructure support body for the voluntary sector in London, facilitates a health and social care network, which has around 100 members. Members receive e-bulletins keeping them up to date on policy changes and opportunities (such as events and consultations) for voluntary organisations working in health and social care. The network has a strong focus on health inequalities and the wider determinants of health. Membership in the network is free. To sign up contact Alison Blackwood or Sandra Van Der Feen.

In this time of health transition, the health leads at LVCS make periodic links with David Cox, the transition lead at NHS London. They are also linked in with several public health / local authority commissioners, Directors of Public Health and several GPs involved in the emerging GP consortia. They have been developing a pilot public health database of voluntary and community sector (VCS) providers in London and aim to keep the statutory sector organisations involved in the transition updated about the voluntary sector in the London region.

LVSC’s Chief Executive is also a member of the London Public Health Transition Advisory Group, which consists of representatives from NHS London, the Regional Public Health Group, London Councils, the Greater London Authority and the London Health Commission, which is overseeing the public health transition in London.

Most clinical consortia in London cover borough boundaries but there are exceptions, such as Newham Health Partnership and the Sutton Consortium that are below borough boundary areas.
